I’m proud to be a 7th generation Texan with ancestors who fought at the battle of San Jacinto.  I grew up in Dallas, TX and after graduating from Jesuit College Prep HS I enlisted in the US Air Force where I worked on C-130 Hercules’ as a radio repair technician.  I spent two years in Active Duty service and then transferred to the Texas National Guard so that I could attend college at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX  full time.

I graduated from Midwestern State shortly after the wall came down in Berlin. I was able to get a job teaching English in the former Czechoslovakia where I met my future wife Andrea. 7th generation Texan falls for a daughter of a card carrying communists. Oh, the irony!

After teaching English for an academic year in Czechoslovakia, I returned to Texas to attend the University of Texas School of Law in Austin.  While I was attending UT, Andrea was completing her degree in economics and computer science in Kosice, Slovakia where she graduated number one in her class. She was hired by Andersen Consulting, now Accenture, to work out of their Prague office. We got married the following summer. She was able to pull off a transfer from Prague, Czech Republic to Austin, TX. Sweet!

I started working in the mortgage industry in 1993 while still in school at UT. After graduation I stayed in finance while Andrea pursued her career in technology. After honing my skills in the mortgage industry I founded Counselors Mortgage Corp in 1998 as an independent mortgage banking/brokerage firm. Andrea continued her career with Andersen Consulting followed by stints with Dell and Vignette, until she joined me at Counselors Mortgage in 2003.

We have two boys, Lance and Luke.  As a family, we enjoy Boy Scouts, soccer, martial arts, hiking, camping and swimming.
